England Squash & Racketball Agrees Public Leisure Partnership Deal

October 20th, 2009

The England Squash and Racketball has reportedly agreed to enter into a lucrative partnership deal with DC Leisure, a public leisure services provider. This partnership will make it possible to enhance participation levels among squash players and coaches.

Other benefits would include the upgrade of courts at several establishments located throughout the United Kingdom. The players will certainly have improved squash training facilities, improved squash gear and in turn boosts their morale in playing well in upcoming tournaments.

The agreement is said to last for three years. The “Pay and Play” scheme will be implemented wherein amateur players can be members of the English Squash and Racketball. By opening this door of opportunity to aspiring squash players, the participation will increase to as high as 65,000 for the next four years. In the past, membership was only limited to players that are members of squash clubs affiliated to ESR.

The deal is said to be timely for everyone because hundreds of squash courts in the country are in danger of being closed.
ESR official Steve Amos revealed that almost 40 percent of squash courts located within the local community are now part of the program’s strategy to increase participation.

A number of clubs are reporting drastic decline in membership, especially the new ones. This can be attributed to declining interest on the game or lesser support from organizers. This program will attempt to buck the trend caused by global financial crisis which affected most, if not all types of sports.
